We haven’t really had snow in town for much of the winter this year. With promises of near 70 degree temps later this week, we awoke to snow covering the ground at our house this morning. Needing to get out for some exercise, we headed into the mountains - and found a lot of fresh powder! Luckily we had grabbed our snowshoes…

How to summarize the adventures of this past weekend and what it meant to me…?! For my 50th, Erika decided we were way overdue for a sister trip…this time to NYC! Two nights in the city to eat, shop, relax, catch up, and enjoy 2 Broadway shows. It was pure perfection 💖 Then, to close out the trip, a couple nights with her family in their CT home (great food and beautiful sunset included!). This was much needed, and pure magic.

It’s been a few years since we last hiked at the OTO Ranch. It’s a lot of uphill, but the weather was perfect, so it made for a beautiful adventure.

How do you pick a handful of images to reflect the magic and importance of a few days away??? For my 50th birthday, my aunt gifted me with a weekend away with her, in San Diego. And these past few days have been everything I didn’t realize I needed - girl time, sun, sand, surf, s’mores, fire pit time, amazing food and even better conversations. 💖🥂🌴

When the dog is driving you crazy because he keeps whining to go outside but you just want to be cozy under your blanket and drink your coffee…but then you get rewarded with this light show at 5:45am! 🤩✨ What a magical start to the day!!!

For the first time in a while, I was inspired to take landscape photos…and not just with my cellphone! This winter has been so strange - really warm for Montana. A benefit of no snow on the ground is being able to go for a drive and hike trails we haven’t done in ages.

Today’s adventure brought us to Ennis Lake, where I was drawn to the thin ice mixed with open water and ice shards. The hiking trail had more green than I expected to see in January, and the dog had so much fun scrambling over everything.

For the first time in a while, I was inspired to take landscape photos…and not just with my cellphone! This winter has been so strange - really warm for Montana. A benefit of no snow on the ground is being able to go for a drive and hike trails we haven’t done in ages.

As 2025 draws to a close, I like to scroll back through all the images I took this year. It’s so easy to forget half the things that happen in a 12-month period, and I want to take the time to be grateful for each moment.

What I discovered is that even though I didn’t have any “grand adventures” this year, I had so many magical moments with family and friends…and we got a puppy.

Here are my top memories from this past year:

✨I met up with my friend Ann in Nashville for a fun-filled weekend in March

✨ In April I reconnected with my friend Theresa in the Seattle area. It was a weekend of vintage finds, pretty food and cocktails and so much catching up

✨ Matt & I went to Oregon in June, for his nephew’s graduation. We stayed at a great cabin in the mountains, right on a lake.

✨ My sister and nephew came to visit us in August. Lucas’s one wish was to go camping…

✨ I got to see Lindsey Stirling’s Snow Waltz tour, and it was pure magic!

✨My friend Lee, and her boyfriend, came to stay with us for a couple nights in September

✨My parents came out in early December and we got to do all the Christmasy stuff (like chopping down our Christmas tree)

✨My friends Ann & Roberto flew out just to spend my birthday with me!

✨ Kristi met me in Louisville a couple weeks ago, and we toured Angels Envy distillery before attending the Lindsey Stirling’s show

✨ Quality time in the mountains with Cache and Matt

✨ Big camping adventures in our little Scout camper

✨ I had some quality time at my parent’s house in Vermont in the fall

✨A memorable girl’s weekend in Idaho with my aunt and our friend Kris…drinking wine and celebrating a birthday

For my birthday this year, I wanted a quick getaway with a dear friend. Kristi agreed to meet me in Louisville, KY for a couple days where we packed in bourbon tasting, walks around the city, Kentucky Hot Browns, and leisurely chats in the coolest holiday atrium.

No matter how many times we go, it’s always fun to take our family and friends to Yellowstone! And every time my parents visit, we head out there before sunrise so we can see the animals.

Next up in this Montana Christmas adventure…cut down the Christmas tree 🌲 This is something Matt and I do every year. It’s also something my parents did with my sister and I when we were kids (but haven’t done since we moved out). A beautiful snowy drive to our favorite spot…success!

This year I got to take my parents to the Christmas Convoy village! It was cold out, but the light snowfall and thousands of twinkling lights made the evening magical. Definitely a great start to the holiday season…and a week of Christmasy events while my parents are in town!

I finally got to go hunting with Matt this morning, for the first time all season. While I don’t necessarily love leaving the house at 5:30am on my day off, there is magic in the mountains. I love the meditative peace of hiking in the dark, watching the sun rise from a mountain top, moving my body and keeping up with Matt… No deer were seen, but to me it was a successful start to the day.

One thing I love about my job is being able to take “field trips” down to Big Sky. Today was a perfect day for a drive…and I even got some snow flurries!

An autumn vacation that was low key overall, but packed in some great memories, started with me and Cache driving across the country for 3 days. Then there was racing around the garden and picking tomatoes with Cache. Autumn walks on the rail trail. Lunch with my dad at @millriverbrewing. Spending time in the sunroom with mom and Cache. Lake Champlain sunset views. The very necessary trip to @coldhollowcidermillvt for cider, apple cider donuts and lunch. Then Matt met me at my patent’s house with his Canadian moose and we drove it all back home together.

A girls weekend in the Sunnyslope Wine Region of Idaho is even better when you don’t have to do the driving! @sunshinewinetours takes such good care of us - four wineries, charcuterie board lunch, and plenty of information about the local area…

How do you balance your personal needs with your obligations…especially when you travel?

I have taken many trips over the years where you are either doing something that brings you joy or you are doing things you have to (usually with family). It wasn’t until Matt and I started traveling together that I realized you can do both in one trip!

Matt has been incredible at combining both for me. For example, on this trip we are here because of his nephew’s graduation - which means a lot of time spent with family. But, he also booked us a cabin in the woods, right by a lake. This has allowed me solitude by the water every morning and hikes in the afternoon…while also being close enough to town to spend the quality time eating and visiting wineries with the family.

It’s a balance that I truly appreciate! It helps to return from vacation feeling more fulfilled than drained, and it allows for quality time with each other 💖

En route, we made a stop to check out @greycliffmillmt - it is such a beautiful spot, and full of surprising treasures and treats

Reconnecting with this beautiful woman after not seeing each other for 18+ years is such a treat!!! 💖 I think it’s been about 5 years since I found her on FB, and we’ve had some amazing conversations through that avenue ( isn’t that what social media was designed for?!). But to reunite in person…and have three quality days together…priceless!!!

Winter and early spring have felt very long and dreary this year, and I was in need for a change of scenery…or in this case, constantly changing!

I’m off for 5 days, so I hit the road at 7am and just now arrived at my destination. Nothing quite like a solo road trip to clear your head!

Woke up to snow this morning! It’s funny how much the snow we’ve been getting in town has bugged me…but it’s magical when I’m camping. Though, it did cut today’s adventures short.

We decided to go for a hike yesterday, to see if we could wear the puppy out early in this adventure.

I haven’t done much hiking lately, and it felt good to get in some miles. Through scattered raindrops and roll hills, it was fun to watch Cache’s antics as the dark clouds rolled in.

The same thing applies to cooking, for me. I am obsessed with cookbooks! It’s so easy to get stuck in a (dinner) rut and to not feel very inspired when you need to come up with something (nutritious?!) every single night.

When I get a new cookbook, I love to flip through it and flag any recipe that looks intriguing. It makes it easier to find a meal idea when you don’t have to flip through every page. And this group of cookbooks are my most used! Do you have a favorite go-to cookbook for when you’re feeling stuck and uninspired???

Ann has been one of my dearest friends since college (we won’t discuss how many years ago that was 😉). I think it’s been about 15 years, though, since we had a weekend together…just us exploring new territory. I am so very grateful to have had this magical time with her in Nashville! ❤️

One thing Ann and I did, as we were searching out murals, was to work on capturing good/fun pictures of each other…and this made the adventure so much more enjoyable! (And yes, there are some really funny images in the batch 🙃)

I just had a chance to go through ALL of our pictures, and have edited a few favorites. The ones from Printer’s Alley are definitely at the top of my list for both of us.
